At 4-H Ontario, volunteers are more than helpers—they are the heart and soul of our movement. They are mentors, cheerleaders, community builders, and lifelong learners. And this National Volunteer Week, we’re shining a light on their incredible impact and sharing what motivates them to keep showing up.
Watch a message from our Executive Director, Christine Oldfield, celebrating our volunteers.
What Our Volunteers Are Saying
We recently asked our volunteers to reflect on their experience—and the results say it all:
- 49% rated their experience as 4 out of 5
- 36% gave it a perfect 5 out of 5
That means 85% of volunteers rate their time with 4-H as excellent. But it’s their words—not just the numbers—that speak volumes.

In Their Own Words
Here’s just a glimpse into why our volunteers give their time, talents, and hearts to 4-H:
“4-H was the one program I loved as a youth and I stuck with. It was, and still is, where my people are.”
“I love seeing the members learning and then using the skills they’ve learned in our community.”
“I enjoy the interaction with youth and watching their self-confidence develop from club to club.”
“The members give me energy. Several of them have grown so much.”
“We support our son’s beef club and step in when needed—it’s a family effort.”
“I’m trying to give back the rewarding experiences I had as a member… and help keep the program strong in our county.”
“It’s about youth, learning new skills, and the social aspect. I just love it.”
Whether they’re stepping up to run a club, organizing an achievement day, or mentoring behind the scenes, 4-H volunteers make a lasting difference in the lives of young people across Ontario.
Join Us in Celebrating
This week—and every week—we are endlessly grateful to those who give back to their communities through 4-H. If you’ve ever been inspired by a volunteer, let them know. Tag them in a post, send a thank-you, or simply say it out loud.
