Announcement to 4-H Ontario regarding 2020 membership fees

4-H Ontario, 4-H Ontario | (Posted May 4, 2020)

It is important for 4-H stakeholders (youth, volunteers, parents) to remember is that the membership is just that -a membership fee- not a project or club fee. When a youth pays the annual membership fee this provides them with the opportunity to engage in a variety of projects and activities; locally, regionally, provincially, nationally and internationally. These can be scholarships, bursaries, travel opportunities etc., many of which have eligibility requirements based on previous 4-H participation and membership status.

When a youth pays a membership, they choose the opportunities they take advantage of.

Before requesting a refund, it is important for youth to consider:

•               What new different opportunities and projects can I as a member explore.

•               Is this an opportunity to leave the comfort zone of the traditional project and opportunities I have been a part of and learn new and different skills?

•               What impact will my actions and decisions regarding 4-H involvement have in the future. How will my decisions about participating in 4-H projects this year impact opportunities for scholarships and competitions in the future?

Before requesting a refund, it is important for volunteers to consider:

•               What new and different opportunities and projects can I encourage 4-H youth to explore?

•               Is this an opportunity for me to leave the comfort zone of traditional projects that I have lead and show leadership to the 4-H youth and fellow volunteers and exploring new and different projects in a new and different way?

•               How can I provide to 4-H youth a sense of belonging, growing and learning and being supported, in these challenging times? These are the reasons that we love 4-H; these are the reasons we have the most dedicated members and volunteers of any youth serving organization.

For all 4-H stakeholders to consider: The 4-H program is going to look different this year and in the future. There is a new reality to how we live. 4-H’ers are resilient, they are determined, they are creative and innovative. This is our time to show these talents and characteristics.
