4-H'ers Visit Eat Local Sudbury

The Sudbury Clever Clovers 4-H Club recently enjoyed a field trip to Eat Local Sudbury, a store in downtown Sudbury. The members and their parents were greeted by Peggy Baillie, the Managing Director.

The members learned about the benefits of eating seasonal foods provided by regional farmers. The food movement, also known as ‘Eat Local’ not only supports local farms producing high-quality wholesome foods but also ensures healthier choices for consumers. Peggy explained that Eat Local supports organically grown produce which is non-GMO and pesticide-free foods. The cooperative buys their goods within a 150-mile radius (240 kms) of Sudbury. Since it is a cooperative, membership is encouraged. Eat Local Members receive a discount on their purchases.

Afterwards, the 4-H members toured the store and identified many interesting products. Items such as chocolate honey spread, corn salsa, spelt flour, local honey and maple syrup were available for sale. The freezers were full of meat and dairy products as well as a variety of eggs. Locally produced seeds, beeswax candles, body care products, and coffees and teas filled the shelves.
