The York 4-H Dairy club held their second meeting on May 20, 2015 at the Beynon Family Farm. Robert Beynon kindly allowed us to use coloured chalk on their Guernsey Cows. The colored chalk was used to mark the parts of a proper dairy cow. We split the club into two groups since we have a lot of members. One group went with Brad Hulshof, one of the leaders and the other group went with Sarah Kellington, another leader. During this meeting the younger members learned a lot about parts of a dairy cow. Our younger members were great participants and made a great effort. After we had named most of the parts of a cow, we switched subjects to judging. The older members joined with a younger member and went off to judge four excellent Guernseys. We had about 10 minutes to write down our thought then we re-grouped. Each pair took turns saying their reasons and placings. The younger members surprised us with their confidence and enthusiasm. By the end off the meeting we had snacks and everyone had learned a lot thanks to the help of Robert Beynon who was showing us his barn. All in all, the York Dairy club had a fantastic time judging and marking cows at the Beynon Family farm.
