(Posted June 3, 2014)

The Ashton Horse Club is once again in full swing. The club started off the year with a meeting on May 7 in Ashton. After a short introduction of everyone present, elections followed of; President - Eliana de Lima-Ventresca, Vice-President - Jamie Barclay, Secretary and Press Reporter - Lindsay Wiggins. The club is lead by Carleton County President Kelly Barclay and Trudi Simpson. After a fun game of horse pictionary, members enjoyed baked goods and the meeting was adjourned.

The second meeting was held on May 20 in Ashton. This meeting focused on showmanship for the end of the year show in August. They practiced a simple pattern with horses, and learned how to present themselves and their project animal. Showmanship is judged on presentation of the exhibiter, presentation of the horse and performance on the ground.

Part of the training club members receive during the summer is instruction in how to judge animals or items given in order of best down, and give reasons for doing so. Kelly Barclay gave a class of body brushes for a practice. After a snack the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be in Ashton on June 4 with guest speaker Sylvia Kornherr.
