The Sudbury Clever Clovers 4-H Club enjoyed an overnight camping trip at Grundy Lake Provincial Park on September 13th. Club Leaders Paulette and Wayne Macdonald as well as parent chaperones Wendy and Henry Ethier ensured that we arrived safely and well-equipped. The campers were Jena, Meaghan, Hannah, Elias, Sylkin, myself and Samson, the golden retriever!

Upon arrival, the members set up tents, eating areas, and assisted with the tent trailers. Afterwards we took a short walk to the beach to play Frisbee and football; that was fun! Amazingly, we saw two beautiful trumpeter swans; they were gracefully resting at the beach.

Later in the day we barbecued a delicious dinner of sausages and hamburgers with potato salads. Starting the camp fire was a bit of a challenge considering the cool, rainy weather. We finally managed to do so using the ‘teepee within a log cabin’ approach with plenty of kindling. Of course, we needed the fire to enjoy S‘mores later that evening! The next morning we all prepared a warm breakfast of scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, sausages and hot chocolate.

Later that afternoon we hiked the scenic two-hour Gut Lake Trail. We had a great time but no camp-out in that area is complete without stopping for ice cream at the French River Trading Post! We headed back to Sudbury feeling happy and satiated.
