Opening Meeting of Spice Club 2012

Submitted by Mary-Evelyn Lee
Essex 4-H - Spice Club: Around the World in 80 Spices
(Posted March 2, 2012)

February 26, 2012 –This year Spice Club kicked off at 1:50 pm with the 4H pledge. Mrs. Matthews then touched on a few kitchen safety and etiquette rules. Next the executives were nominated and elected: Emma L. as President, Jacob as Vice President, Joelle as Secretary, Darren as Treasurer and Mary-Evelyn as Press Reporter. Last to be discussed was an outline of this year’s activities.

This year Spice Club will be divided into two consecutive clubs. The first, named “Around the world in 80 spices”, will run from February till June. Continuing to explore last year’s spices of different countries with the addition of herbal remedies, this Club will take up these five months. In June we are planning an achievement day and possibly a picnic for 4-H Members.

“We’re eatin’ good tonight” was the chosen name for our second Club running from July to November. Holiday foods and gifts made from herbs will be our topics for this segment. An Achievement Day Christmas Tea will wrap Spice Club up for the year.

Emma L. adjourned the meeting around 3pm. Future meetings will be held in WETRA’s kitchen (which has been graciously loaned to us by WETRA). March 11th at 1:30 will be our next gathering. I can’t wait until then!
