2012 Sutton-Sharon Dairy Report

This year the Sutton-Sharon Dairy club came out with sixteen keen members, who were ready to learn and experience the dairy club. The club had many new members along with members who have been apart of the club from previous years. This year we got the opportunity to tour Glenn and Ashley Beckett's newly built Dairy Farm, at Beckridge Holsteins. Our members were divided into groups and Classified groups of cattle. On our third meeting we got the experience to see multiple ultrasounds on different stages of pregnancy in cows. Thanks to Dr. Rod Schell of Cannington Vet Services and the hosts, the Lockie family at Lockmar Holsteins. The club had a joint meeting with the Markham Dairy Club at Hulsdale Holsteins, hosted by Brad and Lieke Hulshof and family. At our 4th meeting we had a fun day learning how to wash our calves for the show days, clip them and also gave tips for showmanship skills in the ring. Our junior members travelled to Orono Fairgrounds to compete in the East Central Junior 4-H Dairy Show. The clubs senior members competed at the EastGen Challenge East Dairy Show held at the Markham Fairgrounds. Achievement days had good attendance and were filled with a great amount of fun! Overall the 2012 season was a great success. We learned many new things and I would like to thank everyone that contributed to it. Another big thank you to our leaders, Gary Pegg, Jason Pegg and Karen Coates.
