Caring for an animal of any kind is a big responsibility, and during your time as a participant in the Harrow Poultry Club, you’ll get to raise 3 birds of your choice (chickens, ducks, geese, or turkeys). Essex Feed Warehouse donates each participant 3 of the same bird.
Participants will learn about proper care, proper husbandry, nutrition and the digestive tract, judging, showing, plus some candling of eggs.
Achievement Day will be during the Harrow Fair and participants have the option of auctioning off their bird at the 4-H Harrow Fair Auction.
Participants will receive their birds in April as day olds.
Some of the birds available are
Hens/Roosters: Road Island Red, Leghorn, Barred Plymoth Rock, Black Sex Link, Red Sex Link
Meat Birds: White Rock
Ducks: Muscovy
Turkeys: White, Bronze and Gold
Geese: Emblem Geese (pending)
