The Northumberland 4-H Veterinary Club meets six times over the summer months on Wednesday evenings to learn about veterinary topics and procedures for all animals. The meetings are held at various farms and other locations throughout Northumberland County.
At the 2022 meetings, we learned about emergency first aid for dogs and cats, visited a dairy farm and gave cows magnets to prevent hardware disease and learned how to take blood samples, toured a beef farm and learned how to lead, show and judge beef heifers, practiced hoof care and bandaging at a horse ranch, and learned about the circulatory system with a beef heart dissection. All members gave a presentation on a veterinary topic at our year end BBQ.
The Vet Club is open to members 12-21 in the calendar year. We’ve been strict about the age cut-off, and to be fair, will continue to be. If you’re too young this year, we really look forward to you joining us when you’re older.
