South Huron Sheep Club

What’s our topic for 2024?

This year we will focus on the sheep. We will take a look at different aspects of the sheep from raising to harvest.

Dates for Club Meetings and events (subject to change).

The goal is to have the bulk of the meetings done before summer.

March 19th (meeting) – 7-9 pm Welcome Meeting, A parent/guardian must be present if you are under the age of 15, and/or new to the club. We will review the year at a glance. Get our club off to a great start.

April 4th (meeting)– 6:30-9 pm – Lamb Selection, Judging, Tour and talk about building a flock and costs associated with owning sheep

April 25th  (meeting)– 6:30-9 pm – How to break my lamb, processing and ewe and lamb management at lambing time best practices.

May 11th (meeting)-9 am -noon (date to be confirmed) –  Tannery Tour

June 13th (meeting)– 6:30-8:30 (date to be confirmed) -Meat Market. Processing lamb at a working butcher shop. Breaking down the cuts of lamb.

June 22nd – Huron County 4-H judging Competition (can be used as a make-up meeting)

July 20th – 10 am – 2 pm Zurich Fair, field day to get those lambs off the farm. Mock show, work on showmanship. (Can be used as a make-up meeting)

Aug 10th- Sheering Drop In Seaforth Fair Grounds. Your lamb must be sheared to be shown. The club will organize one shearing day. You are welcome to shear your lamb yourself as well.

Aug 17th  (Achievement Program)– **NEW** Bayfield Fair – Achievement Day. Achievement Day will be moved to the Bayfield Fair this year.

Sept 13th – (Friday) County Show, at the Seaforth Fair.

Sheep Project

If you have an interest in the lamb or sheep industry, ewe will love the Sheep Project! We’ll cover everything to do with raising and showing healthy sheep.
