The 4-H Ontario Ambassador program provides youth with advanced level training in leadership, citizenship, communications and public relations. Ambassadors put their energy and 4-H experiences to work recruiting new members and sharing the 4-H story. Throughout 2015, each of 4-H Ontario’s six Ambassadors will submit blog entries about their experiences in the program. Hi, I am Cailen Bromley and I was privileged to be selected as one of the six 2015 Ambassadors. I live In Renfrew County on a small jersey farm with my parents and two siblings. Next year I am heading to university for environmental engineering. I really enjoyed my first two months as being an Ambassador and as I watch my calendar fill for the rest of the year I am getting even more excited. The training weekend in Guelph was an awesome experience and I learned lots of communications skills and feel much more comfortable speaking in public. It was great to meet the sponsors, UPI Energy LP and GROWMARK Inc. who allow this wonderful program to run. The first event I attended as an Ambassador was Region 2’s Volunteer Symposium, in Kemptville at the offices of our generous sponsors Grenville Mutual’s. I got to attend the workshops on “Being Creative in Your 4-H Clubs” and “Using Social Media in your Clubs”. I then spoke to the group about the Ambassador Program and my experiences in 4-H. I then lead some ice breakers and team building activities that the leaders could bring back to their clubs. It was a good start to my year. I am really looking forward to going to Region 1, and meeting the volunteers in Thunder Bay, Kenora Region and Rainy River. I will also be visiting Sudbury later in June and helping with their Discovery Day. It will be a great experience to see how they run 4-H in the north and reconnect with people I have met at different camps.
