Ottawa, ON, Oct. 11, 2023 – The 2023 recipients of the 4-H Canada Leadership Excellence Awards of Distinction (L.E.A.D.) have been selected.

The most prestigious scholarship available to 4-H members, L.E.A.D. is generously supported by long-time 4-H Canada partner, CN, and provides each of the four recipients with $20,000 toward their four-year post-secondary education. Each scholarship is connected to one of 4-H Canada’s four leadership development pillars (Community Engagement & Communications, Science & Technology, Environment & Healthy Living, and Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security). In addition to scholarship funds, recipients benefit from an ongoing mentorship with a prominent expert from their chosen field of study.

Community Engagement & Communications

“Each year, with CN’s support, we are able to help impressive youth leaders attain their educational goals, not only by providing them with significant financial support, but also by pairing them with a mentor from their desired career field,” explained Hugh Maynard, 4-H Canada Interim Chief Executive Officer. “This year’s recipients have shown tremendous leadership skills and have worked incredibly hard to positively impact their 4-H clubs, their communities, and the world. We are proud to support the next step in their exciting educational journeys, and look forward to seeing what the future holds for these bright young leaders.”

In partnership with CN, 4-H Canada launched this scholarship in 2015 to recognize 4-H members who have leveraged their 4-H experience to become exceptional leaders, and gone on to share the best of themselves with their communities – demonstrating leadership excellence, community impact, and personal development.

“CN partners with 4-H at the national level to support stronger, safer communities across our network,” said Janet Drysdale, CN Senior Vice-President and Chief Stakeholder Relations Officer. “4-H programs like the L.E.A.D. scholarship help build the next generation of leaders, the people that will drive future advancement and growth in the regions our customers and employees call home.”

4-H Canada congratulates the 2023 L.E.A.D. scholarship recipients, and looks forward to celebrating them at the 4-H Canada Leadership Awards, coming up in February 2024. For more information on the L.E.A.D. scholarship, visit
