We offer two sign-up opportunities each March where families are encouraged to attend and find out all about the KLH 4-H program. Club leaders are in attendance to answer any and all questions about their clubs and what they have to offer. Most club leaders bring displays to promote their clubs and we also have scrapbooks available from past years to promote our clubs, local activities, regional activities and any provincial or national events our members may have participated in.
Our 4-H clubs and volunteers are very involved in community events. Each year, we have a committee that co-ordinates the lunch booth at the East Central Farm Show. This is a huge fundraiser for our association, and we invite neighboring associations to volunteer also. Leaders, members, parents, friends of 4-H, etc. sign up to volunteer their time serving customers either in the food booth or on one of the coffee and sandwich/pie carts. The carts travel around the farm show and it’s a great way for the members to promote the 4-H program while fine tuning their customer relations skills.
Due to our promotion of the 4-H program in the community, we have also had local businesses approach us about working with them during one of their events. For example, a business will contact us to run a BBQ during a staff appreciation day and will then make a donation to our program. Community relations are a win-win for both parties in these situations.
